Basketball is a team sport originally played in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1891. Over time it has evolved into a game played with 5 players per team who move one ball up and down a court by passing and dribbling and attempt to score points by putting the ball through a hoop or "basket." The National Basketball League, or NBA, is the premiere professional basketball league, and as of 2008 had 16 teams under its banner head.
