(More customer reviews)I do not recommend this item. When I received this frame, it was cracked in one corner. The paint job on the frame was poorly done as well; no attention to detail, it looks like a 1st grader painted the gold highlights with paint splashed carelessly on the frame when it was meant only for the molded highlights. Not nearly as nice as it appears in the picture. I was fooled. Save your money and look for something with higher quality if you are planning to frame something nice.

This is a brand new 8x10 picture/photo frame (meaning a 8'' x 10'' or a 10'' x 8'' print will fit just right). Solid wood 3.5'' wide and 1'' thick molding with a 0.25'' deep rabbet is covered with a thin layer of gesso and painted dark mahogany. It also features rich and elaborate designs painted dark-gold. Yes, it is plastic, but you would never know it unless you actually pick it up and touch it. The mat matches the frame with tiny raised dots all around. If I had another 8 x 10 to frame, this would be the set I would purchase. It is well worth the money...actually it is cheap in price in my opinion! You will not be disappointed!

Umbra Document 13-Inch-by-16-Inch Frame, Black Review

(More customer reviews)I've bought a lot of these Umbra frames in different sizes. They tend to be about half the price on Amazon than what they are at my local Art supply stores. They're pretty much the best bang for the buck I've found. Don't worry about damage in shipping like broken glass, Amazon overcompensates. I bought a bunch of 8X10 frames and the boxes were gigantic. The frame was packed in its normal packaging and put in a Amazon box using filler. That box in turn was put inside a larger Amazon box, once again surrounded by filler.
The frames are well made, they don't look like something you'd find in Wally World. The ones with two pieces of glass are supposed to make it look like the photo is 'floating' in space. Keep in mind that your wall shows through, so that your wall color becomes your matte color. I did fit a matte into 2 of mine, just needs to be the same size as a piece of the glass and its easy. That also gave me the added advantage of having 2 extra pieces of glass I used to replace other cracked or broken pieces. (Still need some more, moving killed me.) I want to paint my 'picture' wall dark green, but that will mean matting all of the 'floater' frames I have.
I need to buy a bunch more frames to create another 'picture' wall. I'll get some of the European clip frames because they are really cheap, but I'll buy a variety of Umbra frames for my better work.

(More customer reviews)This frame arrived well packaged and looks great - just like in the photo. It has those inch long tooth like things to hang vertical or horizontal (no wires or eyes). There are two panes of glass and a wooden backing that holds everything together via eight rotating retainer clips. If your artwork is thin like a photograph or piece of paper, this works great - you just put it between the two panes of glass. You can even use the glass for a cool floating effect if you don't want to use a matte.
HOWEVER, if your artwork is thick, it will not work. I have a photo that is glue mounted to a foam backer with a matte already attached. It will not fit with the retainer ring and the clips, and the clips are not adjustable at all.
This is all very difficult to explain in words, but trust me that if your artwork is significantly more than paper thin, this will not work for you.

It has a place for a tassel but now the back protrudes out so it does not sit well on the wall. I had to "jimmy" rig the thing to even get the degree to stay in place and look good. After an hour of messing with it I finally got it to look descent only to find that same black specs from the frame were pressed into the front.

The picture of this item must not be the 11 by 14-inch version, though, because the black part of the frame was narrower than I expected (less than an inch). It was a little disappointing that the look isn't more modern. A thicker frame would look more appropriate for "floating" displays in general, I think.
